Alli recently got a new toy, and was a source of inspiration to me...
For those who couldn't be bothered following the links, it is a ddr (Dance Dance Revolution) mat - one of those dance games like you see at the games places at movie theatres. This one is a soft, foam filled one that you can hook up to your computer via the USB port. Your computer sees the mat as an 10-button joystick, so you can use it with any apps that work with joysticks. They're made with dance games in mind - like PyDance and StepMania (both of which are FREE and OPEN SOURCE - of course =). These two run on linux.
So after playing with Alli's, I told Chris about it. He got as inspired as I was, and it really didn't take much arm-twisting to convince him that we needed one. Or two =)
So they arrived today!!! We have one each so we can plug them into the 'puter, run stepmania, and have a dodgey-dance-off. We've spent most of tonight playing with the thing and are both now truly exhausted. And our feet hurt!
But it's all worth it =)
Great fun - a highly recommended toy!
but now is bed time.....

Pipe went for his first swim on Sunday! It was very amusing...
Chris and I were in the garden doing a little pruning and feeding of the greenery. Pipe and Giz were out and about checking out the trees, eating some grass, doing what cats do. I assume that Pipe was checking out the fishies from the top of the water feature (where the waterfall drops into the pond below), when he must have slipped.
We both heard a splash, and by the time we turned to look he was running away from the pond completely saturated (except for his head and one front leg!). He also smelled like dodgey pond water.
Bath time!!
A few months ago we bought some (strawberry scented) dog/cat wash from the pet store in case of emergency (such as pond-water scented cats). It came in very handy. So we part-filled the laundry trough with nice, warm water and got the soap ready. We closed ourselves into the laundry (ourselves being Pipe, Chris and myself), and put Pipe into the water. He fought a ferocious battle (I had a bleeding ear to prove it!! And many scratches), and wailed like a banshee the whole time, but ended up getting thoroughly washed with yummy strawberry cat wash!
As soon as the wailing started, it attracted Gizzy. Being the protective big brother, I guess he felt compelled to make sure we weren't killing Pipe or something... Since he was closed out on the other side of the laundry door, we just got to hear him wailing along with Pipe.
So... I told my strange (but lovable!) brother the story, and he wrote a song about it. Scary thing is, he came back with this within a minute or two of being told. He barely had time to type it in his message to me let alone think about it. Granted, it leaves out much detail, but does include poor Gizzy in the tale! True story...
This is apparently to be played in C minor, with the ending verse in G major.
